Things I've picked up along the way...

Pretty medieval manuscript of the day is the tree of life and death by Berthold Furtmeyr. It is a German manuscript dating from around 1481. It shows the Virgin, and Eve, on opposite sides of the tree. In the leaves above Mary is a crucifix; above Eve, a skull symbolising death. The serpent is coiled around the trunk of the tree. It is elegant, and yet decidedly sinister.
