Interesting social science reports…
Did you know that the House of Commons library has a team of experienced researchers who produce (impartial) reports to inform and advise MPs? More significantly, did you know that most of these are available online? They make fascinating reading, and excellent primers on unfamiliar topics. I’ve used them quite a lot, both as a student and now as a librarian.
Standard Notes and Research Papers are usually available online. Here are some recent examples:
- Nuclear Power - Commons Library Standard Note - 17 February 2012 - Summary, and full text (PDF download).
- Southeast Asia: A Political and Economic Introduction - Commons Library Research Paper - 14 December 2011 - Summary, and full text (PDF download).
- The Current Regulation of Bailiffs - Commons Library Standard Note - 21 February 2012 - Summary, and full text (PDF download).
- Unemployment by Constituency - Commons Library Research Paper - 15 February 2012 - Summary, and full text (PDF download).
