Things I've picked up along the way...

Pretty medieval manuscript of the day shows building in Jerusalem, from the Tres Riches Heures of Jean duc du Berry. I love this insight into the methods and mechanical contraptions used by medieval masons. The king is David, and he (and the building team) are being watched over by God.

Pretty medieval manuscript of the day is a depiction of David kneeling before God, an illustration of Psalm 130:
[1] Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty. Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me. [2] If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul. [3] Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.
It is from the Tres riches heures.

Pretty medieval manuscript of the day depicts David holding a lit taper, which is being blessed by God. Dating from the twelfth century, it is quite naive in style, but makes up for it with the incredible amount of gold leaf
